The participants, who were chosen from across the district, were taken through theoretical and practical training on how to conduct outreach activities, effectively screen for both breast and cervical cancers, and treat cervical cancer using the Thermal coagulation machine purchased for the project.
A total of one hundred and eighteen women were screened during the training, with eight testing positive for cervical cancer. Six were treated on the spot with the thermal coagulation machine, while two women were referred to Eastern Regional Hospital, Koforidua, for further breast examination.
It was indeed a fruitful training.
All women are encouraged to periodically check their cervix and breasts, as early detection saves lives.
